"This work, "The Water Tower, Malibu", is a painting I worked over to enhance certain colors and push contrast to make the statement more emphatic.
There are more than one way to get to the water tower. This water tower has lost its purpose, but has gained its status as a work of art. Many have painted upon it, and cover-up paint has turned this vessel into a rusty, fun icon that seems to act like a tiara on the crown of this well-hiked little hill at Malibu Creek State Park.
I painted this view, en plein air, while standing at the roadside near the lower parking lot for hours. Once painted, I left it a while for several months, then painted back upon it to push color a bit more. I like it better, now."
